Caregiving can be stressful and overwhelming. If you are a caregiver for a parent, or other family members, you may be facing difficult decisions about healthcare, finances and lifestyle – now, or in the near future. Everyone is invited to Springfield Township’s free dinner and “Caring for Mom” Seminar on Wednesday, May 18, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., at the Springfield Township Grove Banquet Hall, located at 9158 Winton Road.

Presentation by Micki Fehring, RN, Geriatric Care Manager for Care Advisors by Black Stone.

Bridgeway Pointe volunteer Josh Pruitt recently received a “YMCA Character Award” for his commitment to service at the Annual YMCA Character Awards ceremony, held at the School for Creative and Performing Arts. Forty people were honored from the Cincinnati region. Josh volunteers at Bridgeway Pointe on a regular basis; and he brings his mojo! He visits, sings and dances for residents – and the fun begins. Toes start tapping, people start singing and hands are clapping. Josh first started volunteering through a YMCA leadership program. “I just love helping people,” says Josh, who will graduate from Aiken College and Career High School this spring. “And I love to make people feel good about themselves.”

“It’s volunteers like Josh that give meaning to what I do,” says Wendy Morton-Green, Drake’s Volunteer Services Supervisor. “Josh and ALL our volunteers are a joy and a blessing to our patients and residents.” Josh’s volunteer experience has helped inspire his dream to attend nursing school. Bridgeway Pointe Love Story Featured in National Bestseller

Recently published bestseller “Enchantment” includes the love story between former Bridgeway residents Don and Ulys Martin. The story, submitted by Kathy Parsanko, marketing/PR consultant for Bridgeway, talks about how the couple has kept their love alive through 65 years of marriage, despite the challenges of dementia. Although they lived in separate apartments at Bridgeway, Don used to visit Ulys in The Harbor, Bridgeway’s secured dementia area, day and night. Whenever Ulys saw him, she would light up and smile. They communicated deeply – with and without words.

“Enchantment,” released March 8, 2011, is already on the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Publishers Weekly best seller lists.
